We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate.

These challenges need the bold research our funding supports, but they won’t be solved by science alone.

The Research Environment department at Wellcome is responsible for ensuring that all of the research we fund through the new strategy is open, engaged, ethical and equitable. We lead Wellcome’s work on research culture and communities, research ethics and engagement, and open research.

The Research Environment Project Officer has responsibility for ensuring that projects are commissioned, managed and delivered in a way that maximises their potential. These will be projects seeking to build sustained change in areas across the breadth of Research Environment's portfolio, meaning that the Project Officer will be making key contributions to our strategic goal of changing how research is done.

    In this role you will

    • manage the delivery of Research Environment workstreams and individual projects including carrying out quantitative and qualitative research, analysis, reporting and evaluation.
    • support colleagues across our Health Challenge and Discover Research teams embed Research Environment goals within their work.
    • contribute to Research Environment’s monitoring of progress against its delivery plan.
    • contribute to the creation and development of a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments.

To be successful in this role you will have

    • familiarity with current state of and trends in one or more of Research Environment’s areas: open research, research culture, research ethics and researcher led engagement. Experience within the life and biomedical sciences not required.
    • experience working in a project delivery environment and familiar with project management processes and practice.
    • experience of processing and synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data.
