What you'll do
The Innovation and AI teams are part of our Central Engineering function and are responsible for converting the latest developments in telcommunications, networking, cloud, machine learning and generative AI into tangible business value for the company.
We are offering a 12-week summer internship opportunity based at our London HQ for a talented and motivated undergraduate to gain hands-on experience within a real-world, high-tech environment.
The successful candidate will work alongside experienced engineers on projects that will involve a mix of real-time software development together with all or some of the technologies previously mentioned.
The day-to-day
- Design, develop, and test software solutions in the field of real-time systems, AI/ML applications and/or satellite telecommunications
- Collaborate with software engineers to implement efficient and performant algorithms
- Gain an understanding of modern software development techniques
- Assist in the development of software prototypes and proof-of-concept applications
- Research, experiment and evaluate new and emerging technologies that might contribute to the group’s projects
- Document and present your findings and results to an internal technical audience
Internship programme details
- You will work onsite at the Viasat London office for the duration of your 12-13 week internship (Cohort 1: 17th June 2025 – 12th September 2025). Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams.
- To ensure equity across our intern population, intern compensation is pre-determined based on a variety of factors including: role, location, and final graduation date. Intern compensation is non-negotiable.
What you'll need
Education requirements
- You'll be expecting to achieve a good honours degree (First or 2.1) from a Russell Group university in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mathematics or a related field
- To be eligible for this position you must complete your degree between December 2025 and Summer 2026
Additional requirements
Knowledge or experience in at least one of the following areas:
- Real-time software development (e.g., embedded systems, low-latency applications, parallel processing)
- Machine Learning / Generative AI (e.g., deep learning frameworks, model optimization, NLP, LLMs)
- Telecommunications (e.g., digital signal processing, wireless protocols, software-defined radio)
What will help you on the job
- Passion for problem-solving and ‘blank sheet’ innovation
- You'll also ideally have strong analytical skills and an ability to quickly learn new technologies
- Bonus points for having excellent communication and teamwork abilities too!
