Your responsibilities
Part of a dynamic engineering team meeting the technical challenges of maintaining and improving plant performance, through utilising theoretical knowledge you've gained in your studies with hands-on, practical experience.
If given the role, a number of suitable projects will be assigned to you, and it will be your responsibility to complete these to a high standard during your placement at Connah’s Quay Power Station.
Your initial activities will include spending a number of weeks with the different teams on site, including:
- Maintenance Delivery Team, ensuring the day to day maintenance is delivered to the highest engineering and safety standards which will provide you with experience of a number of different engineering disciplines.
- Engineering Team: Planning for long term strategic engineering activities including outages/shutdowns and projects.
- Production Team: Understanding how the power Station is operated and all the systems link together.
Following these initial introductions, you will form part of the Engineering team, through to the end of your placement and will be involved in:
- The planning, development and safe execution of a range of works in a large complex industrial environment, across a number of technical areas.
- Working with lots of different people, interacting with our managers and executive team.
- Supporting the development of low carbon, sustainable solutions.
- Utilising and developing a range of additional skills beyond your technical capabilities, including safety, contract management, commercial awareness, management of change processes and stakeholder management.

Your profile
An Engineering Student will be:
- Studying in an Electrical/EC&I field. Working towards a degree level qualification in Engineering.
- Knowledge of high and low voltage distribution systems would be advantageous.
- Enthusiastic, passionate and inquisitive with the dedication to achieve a career in engineering.
- Confident in using Microsoft packages with good analytical and commercial skills; a knowledge of working with spreadsheets or databases would be useful.
- Organised and meticulous in all aspects of work, and able to work to strict deadlines.
