Salary: £36,408 in Cheltenham, with a salary of £42,658 for roles based in London.
Flexible working: We offer full-time and part-time opportunities. Full-time roles are based on 37 hours per week with flexibility around the start and finish times, while part-time roles are based on a minimum of four days per week. You can work compressed and flexible hours, depending on both business and personal needs. Due to the nature of the role, home or remote working is not possible, so you should live within a commutable distance.
GCHQ is an intelligence, cyber and security agency with a mission to keep the UK safe. We use cutting-edge technology, ingenuity and partnerships to identify, analyse, and disrupt threats. Working with our intelligence partners MI5 and MI6, we protect the UK from terrorism, cyber-attacks and espionage. At GCHQ you’ll do varied and fascinating work in a supportive and inclusive environment that emphasises teamwork.
Working in IT Service Management, you’ll be part of a team providing essential IT services for all users of hardware, software and systems across GCHQ and the wider intelligence community. The nature of our work means we’re reliant on our technology and systems working smoothly every day. Our skilled IT Service Management Team aims to ensure people get what they need the first time of asking – allowing us to stay online, connected, and capable of identifying potential threats.
You might be fulfilling requests to support new equipment. Creating and managing secure user accounts. Or, updating the content in our Service Request Catalogue. It’s a role with real scope, so you won’t be doing the same thing every day. It’s also why you don’t need to have an IT background to join. If we only recruited people who worked in IT, we wouldn’t have the diversity of thought needed to approach tasks in new, innovative ways. You might have experience working in a customer service role, or a similar industry such as retail or as a customer support specialist. Proactive and adaptable, you’ll know how to deliver reassuring, professional solutions that always put the customer first.
And you’ll be joining at an exciting period of transformation as we seek to constantly improve the service we offer. Critically-minded and a puzzle-solver, you’ll see flaws and want to fix them. With your unique insights, you’ll suggest new ways of doing things. From automating processes to future-proofing our systems, you’ll identify ways to make our service the very best it can be. And you’ll do it as part of a friendly culture that makes you feel welcome and valued from the start.
You might be working in IT already or not at all. You could be thinking about changing career paths, or returning to work after a break. All that’s needed is a Level 2 (GCSE or equivalent) qualification in English Language and Maths at Grade 4/C or above, competency with IT, and some experience in a professional workplace. We’ll provide comprehensive training and support from day one, including our buddy and mentor programmes and a full induction to our locations and teams.
You’ll also have access to dedicated career development, including the opportunity to gain formal qualifications (if you don’t already hold them) such as the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) or an SDI Service Desk Analyst (SDA) Training Course. And with flexible working options including part-time and compressed hours, you can work in a way that suits your responsibilities outside of the role, too. Whatever stage of your career and life you’re at, we’ll provide the support you need to thrive.
This is a fascinating opportunity to bring your existing skills to a new environment, and shape a career that’s as rewarding as it is influential.

We therefore welcome and encourage applications from everyone, including those from groups that are under-represented in our workforce, such as women, those from an ethnic minority background, people with disabilities, and those from low socio-economic backgrounds.
