    Within Biopharm Process Development sits GSK’s Device Engineering team; an in-house device development group charged with the delivery of robust, patient-centric devices that enable the effective delivery of novel pharmaceuticals.

    Device Engineering is a multi-skilled team of Engineers and Scientists who work across all stages of the product and process development lifecycle, from concept design and selection through to the regulatory submission and commercial supply.

    The core remit of Device Engineering is to ensure that the delivery device meets the following requirements:

    • is appropriate for the drug product / formulation it is delivering  
    • can be used effectively by the target patient/user population 
    • meets all regulatory requirements for CT supply, File and Launch 
    • is robust, reliable and can be manufactured at commercial scales of supply to the required quality standards 

    What will you do?

    • Work with device development experts to help develop, model and understand the performance of drug delivery devices in the following fields; industrial device design, Computer Aided Engineering (FEA, CFD, multiphysics modelling), manufacturing process development or device project management
    • Learn how GSK develop robust, patient-centric device to deliver medicines
    • Working with stakeholders at different levels across the business.

    You’ll be excited by the thought of: 

    • Contributing to the delivery of medicines to patients through device development  
    • Improving your technical and inter-personal skills  
    • Learning about how drug device combinations are developed and launched 

    What you will need

    The successful candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work both individually and as part of diverse teams, and a have proven interest in one of the following disciplines: industrial device design, Computer Aided Engineering (FEA, CFD, multiphysics modelling), manufacturing process development or device project management.

    Degree Requirements

    You will have completed a minimum of 2 years of your undergraduate degree but will not have graduated at the start of your placement. You may be expected to provide evidence from your university to show you will be an undergraduate student for the duration of the placement year and they are supportive of your placement. 

    Must be studying an Undergradute or Integrated Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or similar discipline.

    Additional Details

    The Assessment Centres for successful applicants are expected to take place in February and March 2022 and the placement will last, approximately, one year.

    For Industrial Placements that involve lab-based work, working with human biological samples the student must be Hepatitis B vaccinated to work within these labs. Hepatitis B vaccination is entirely voluntary.  If you decide not to be vaccinated, your decision will be fully respected.  You will be given appropriate project work, but would not be able to work with human biological samples.  It’s critical we follow the appropriate health and safety guidelines to all employees safe.
