    About us

    Mechanisms Products UK has the mission foremost to deliver technically and commercially competitive electro-mechanical single point failure mechanisms products to spacecraft system primes, specifically state of the art devices that includes those to deploy antennas, rotate and transfer the power of solar array. As well we provide our engineering support to a wide variety of scientific missions to perform space exploration, space science and earth observation, including rover vehicles.

    The full end to end of to design, build, test and deliver physical hardware is within the day to day activities of the mechanisms engineering team, working with and exposed along the way to a wide variety of technical, operational and managerial functions across Airbus, with opportunities to witness hands on up close the production of space hardware.

    Within the team are leaders, managers and engineers ready to engage and support the development of individuals, sharing experience and opportunities.

    What will you be doing?

    During this placement, the activities you may undertake will include;

    • Integration into the mechanisms engineering team and develop an understanding of the role of the team plus the various stakeholder functions that contributed to our shared achievements.
    • To deliver on selected improvement project, working across the mechanisms and as required stakeholder community, working closely with engineering / leader facilitating your success
    • In your assigned project, to report progress, plus make final presentation to the mechanisms team and stakeholders of the project final outcome / result
    • Complimentary to improvement project, work in close collaboration with engineers, on technical topics associated with the ongoing batch production of our mechanisms products
    • To gain exposure to and develop an understanding and appreciation of the means and methods of space mechanisms product build and test in particular.

    Please note our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement.

    Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following;

    • ”mechanical dexterity” i.e. general knowledge of how items (not necessarily space related) are made and assembled.
    • Studying a Mechanical Engineering degree.
    • Experience of generating procedural documentation or equivalent such as laboratory / practical experimental reports associated with study
    • Experience of technical analysis and evaluation, forming and presenting conclusions or progress to reaching a conclusion to colleagues and peers 
    • Abilities to progressively build relationships and network in a team working environment securing the engagement and support of others to achieve progress
    • Clear expectations for personal development within industry including having researched opportunities and possibilities available within the space industry.
