Society of the Year Awards 2019 Energy Journal - Their Experience

By Humera Ansari - Editor-in-Chief of Energy Journal

The Energy Journal is honoured to receive the Environment Award from the Bright Network and are extremely thankful to the award sponsor, Marsh & McLennan. The Energy Journal is a biannual publication focused on current energy affairs and it is published by the energy societies of Imperial College London, LSE, UCL and ESCP Europe.

We really enjoyed the overall process of getting nominated and receiving the award. It was very straight-forward and we were guided continuously by the Bright Network team. Creating our video nomination was harder than expected as none of us are used to being on camera. We put in a lot of thought as to what to incorporate in our video. In the end, we kept it relatively simple and spoke about what it would mean to get nominated, what our plans are for the Journal and tried to involve as many committee members as possible. We also focused on how our Journal is actively encouraging our readers to think about the interplay between the energy industry and the environment.

Once this was done, and we were shortlisted (exciting!), the voting process began. We contacted our readers, authors, editors, and society members to watch our video and vote for us. We used our social media to get the message out there and it worked! We were on our way to the awards lunch.

We prepared for the awards lunch by drafting a short speech about who we are, where we are planning to take our Journal and what we would use the funding for. Thankfully, our speech went well on the day of the awards lunch and we had a great time interacting with the other societies that were also receiving awards. Thank you again to the Bright Network for this amazing opportunity!
