Who we are: Ofcom

Who we are: Ofcom

Ofcom is the independent regulator for the communications services that we use and rely on daily, making communications work for everyone. We oversee and advise on:

  • TV and Radio
  • Broadband, home phone and mobile services
  • The airwaves over which other wireless devices operate
  • The universal Postal Service
  • Video Sharing Platforms
  • Soon to protect from online harms

We provide advice and information to thousands of people each year; register complaints from people and businesses; and take action against firms when they let their customers down. That’s how we also help to make sure people, especially those that are vulnerable, are protected from bad practices.

Our aim is to empower colleagues to undertake interesting and important work and we are committed to investing in, and supporting, people to achieve their full potential. Ofcom is at the cutting edge of modern communications - from broadcasting on TV and radio, to telecoms and how we communicate with each other, to new wireless technologies. Our staff play a key role in all of these areas and are involved from the start. At Ofcom, people are our greatest asset, so developing them is a fundamental part of our ethos.

These are our values:

  • Excellence
  • Collaboration
  • Agility
  • Empowerment
  • Respect
