Cadbury Foundation

How we’re supporting your community

For 85 years, The Cadbury Foundation has been helping the welfare of its employees and the wider community.

In 2019 alone, we gave over £642,000 to support local causes doing important work around the UK and Ireland.

Cocoa Life

Cocoa is at the heart of chocolate. When you’re buying one of our products, look for the Cocoa Life logo on the packet. That means your cocoa has been sustainably sourced, funding agricultural communities to improve their livelihood, land and support the next generation of farmers.

Setting out in 2012, we committed to a 10 year programme deliver $400 million worth of initiatives to 200,000 farmers around the world.

As of 2019, 63% of all of Mondelez cocoa was sourced through cocoa life. We’re on track to make that 100% by 2025!

100% Sustainable Palm Oil

Mondelez source 100% sustainable palm oil. We’ve launched a Palm Oil Action Plan that is committed to helping to eradicate deforestation, and respecting human rights in the palm oil supply chain.

Why do we use Palm Oil?

Palm oil is an important ingredient in many of our recipes as it helps make products smooth, soft and stable during cooking. It also acts as a natural preservative and extends the shelf life of products.

While Mondelēz International accounts for only about 0.5% of palm oil consumption globally, we have played – and continue to play – a leadership role in global industry advocacy toward sector transformation.

Why do we need to carefully manage our supply?

In some parts of the world, expansion of oil palm plantations has led to deforestation.

If one of our suppliers fails to meet the terms of our Palm Oil Action Plan, we start by working with them to fix the problem. If there is significant breach of our principles, we exclude suppliers until the breach is put right.

We investigate claims against our suppliers and take action against verified deforestation allegations.

Packaging and the Environment

We’re on a mission to deliver packaging that delights our consumers, protects our products and does not pollute the environment.

Eliminating and Innovation

As of today, 93% of the company’s total packaging, including both plastic and non-plastic, is designed to be recycled. We are determined in our goal to make all our packaging recyclable by 2025.

Plastic

Mondelez are committed to optimizing and reducing our use of plastic where alternatives prove to be more sustainable and can deliver the properties needed to protect the product. We carefully assess the viability of all plastic alternatives and continue to test materials to reduce our environmental impact.

We are now a signatory of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s New Plastics Economy Global Commitment, as well as a participant in the New Plastics Economy Initiative, and a member of the UK Plastics Pact.

The initiatives share a collective ambition to address plastic waste and pollution at its source, by moving toward a circular economy where plastic stays in the economy and out of the environment.

Together we will achieve our goals, and keep you informed every step of the way.

Animal Welfare

We use fresh dairy and eggs as well as their derivatives in many of our products, including chocolate, biscuits and spreads.

Healthy, well cared-for animals are essential to our supply chain and maintaining our commitment to high quality ingredients.

Eggs

Mondelēz International suppliers are expected to comply with all applicable laws on animal welfare. These include a healthy diet, comfortable and safe environment, prevention and treatment of disease, and sufficient space to behave normally.

Since 2016, we have increased our purchases of cage-free eggs to around 15% of global egg use and we’re working with suppliers to incentivise cage-free egg production. We are working towards a 100% cage-free egg supply and will achieve this worldwide by 2025.

We use 100% cage-free eggs in all of our European chocolate brands as well as in our biscuit products sold in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Dairy

We welcome the Dairy Sustainability Framework (DSF); a dairy sector initiative to align globally on sustainability. DSF defines the principles and practices for sustainable dairy farming. We also recognise and accept industry and supplier standards that are consistent with DSF, such as the Red Tractor in UK and Origin Green in Ireland.

Mondelēz International has a proud history of involvement in the communities where our employees live and work.
