As you explore the opportunities at Bain, we understand you may have questions. Here are insights from Bain’s University Hiring team to help guide you through the application process and prepare for interviews.

What are your top tips for writing a great CV?

We’re flexible in how we review CVs and welcome applications from all degree types and universities. While we recommend keeping your CV to one page, two pages are also acceptable. As a results-driven and data-focused organization, we encourage you to highlight the results and impacts of your experiences, including extracurricular activities, projects, and prior work experience.

Can you walk me through what the application process looks like?

  • Applications: To apply, submit your CV on our website and complete the application form. A cover letter is not required for the London office.
  • Online Assessment: After applying, you’ll receive a link to an online assessment, which must be completed within a specified timeframe. This assessment will include questions on behavioural preferences, numerical reasoning, and logical reasoning. We value diverse personality traits and thinking styles at Bain. For more information, check out our Candidate Preparation Hub.
  • Application Review: We review all applications after the assessment deadline. Outcomes will be communicated shortly after the review period.
  • Interviews: Interviews consist of two rounds: the first round will be virtual, and the second will be in-person. Both rounds will include case interviews, so start practicing early! Helpful resources, including a recorded interview, can be found on our website.
  • Offers: Offers for the Associate Consultant role will be extended after the interview process.

Can I apply if I’m not studying a business degree?

Absolutely! We consider applications from all degree types (Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D.) and subjects. We’re looking for a diverse range of candidates.

I don’t have any prior work experience; can I still apply?

Of course! We provide comprehensive training to help you succeed as an Associate Consultant at Bain.

What attributes are you looking for in a candidate?

We seek exceptional graduates and postgraduates from any degree or discipline who demonstrate strong academic performance, analytical and communication skills, initiative, leadership, and teamwork. Bain people are dynamic and entrepreneurial, thriving on early responsibility, so be sure to highlight these qualities in your application.

How can I best prepare for a case interview?

  • Start practicing early! Watch our recorded interview video and read our top tips on our website.
  • Practice case interviews out loud with classmates or peers you meet at Bain events. Avoid practicing with close friends to simulate a real interview experience.
  • Brush up on your mental maths, calculators are not permitted during case interviews.
  • In your interviews, display a clear thought process and remember to pause to structure your thinking. Be prepared to make hypotheses about which factors are most important, take a position or make a recommendation supported by clear reasoning, and identify key areas for further investigation and steps you would want to take if given the chance.

Is there any advice for someone who is nervous about the interview process?

  • Interviews are a great way for us to learn more about you, and for you to learn more about Bain.
  • Our interviewers are excited to meet you and are not here to trick or mislead you. They were in your shoes not too long ago!
  • Most importantly, be yourself! We’re not looking for one specific type of person, and we want to get to know you throughout the process.

We hope this advice helps as you embark on your journey with Bain. We’re excited to get to know you and support you every step of the way. Good luck!

Best wishes,
