"You can learn from many departments and teams and decide which path/specialty is for you."

Anjola Wahab, R&D Intern

What early careers scheme did you join?

I joined the R&D internship scheme in June 2022.

What is the most exciting project that you have worked on?

A project focused on increasing productivity and sustainability by optimising dairy in chocolate. I was fortunate to join at the start of the project. I completed the scoping, assessed possible savings, created the prototypes, spent days in the pilot plant manufacturing the chocolate, coordinated round table tasting sessions, sent samples off for additional analytical testing, and gathered and analysed the study's results. It was a lot of learning, and I enjoyed every minute of it, especially because the outcomes were positive.

Can you give us an example of how you stepped outside your comfort-zone in this role? Or, what is your biggest learning experience since working with us?

I joined the Facilitator’s network here at Bournville to help build my network and improve my meeting facilitation skills. I recall stepping up to facilitate an intense Quality Workshop involving an external supplier and senior leaders in Bournville. To get the most out of the session, I had to remain impartial to both parties. It was a successful session in which I was able to manage the stress in the room and achieve a positive outcome.

How would you describe the work culture at Mondelēz International and within your function?

The work culture is collaborative, engaging, and supportive.

What is your favourite MDLZ brand?

I’d have to mention two. 1. Cadbury butter mint candy! Because I grew up eating that candy in Nigeria, and 2. Milka! My 1st project during my internship was on milka. So, I’m sentimentally attached now.

What advice would you give someone that’s considering doing an internship with MDLZ?

Simply go for it! It’s a huge steppingstone and platform. You can learn from many departments and teams and decide which path/specialty is for you. It’s a win-win situation. And of course, you get a lot of chocolate! 😊
