Meet Amirat

After earning my Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree from The University of Manchester, I was eager to step into the technology industry. It was at the Bright Network Festival that I first encountered Alfa. One of the key things I noticed at the event was how passionately the employees spoke about their day-to-day work and Alfa in general. At their stand, colleagues emphasised how deeply ingrained culture and community are in the company values.

I also attended Alfa’s Women’s Insight Day, which highlighted the strong support for female programmers. After these two experiences, I knew that Alfa was where I wanted to build my career.

The graduate programme at Alfa started with everyone learning Java programming from the ground up. This approach allowed all participants to advance at the same pace. With my background in programming, I found the learning curve manageable, but ample guidance and support was available for all involved. Within just a few weeks, I was contributing meaningful software changes as a member of my new team, Internal Solutions.

On joining, I was asked about my ideal work-life balance and how the team could best accommodate it. Since then, I’ve experienced consistent check-ins and have been given the flexibility to adjust my schedule as needed. The ongoing support and genuine respect for each employee at Alfa have been among the most rewarding aspects of my time here.

I’ve become actively involved in a few Alfa communities, including the Women’s Community and the Racial Equity Community, which have given me the opportunity to make impactful decisions. Whether it’s participating in social discussions or cultural events like “Come Dine With…”, there are many opportunities for growth and learning at Alfa.
