What stood out to you about Aon?

I attended one or two events at Aon before applying and what stood out to me the most were the people and how everyone loved what they did. It was interesting to see people genuinely excited about their job. Everyone was helpful and friendly too.

Describe your role at Aon

As a broker my responsibilities include presenting risks to underwriters, negotiating terms and getting favourable terms for my client. But as a graduate trainee, I am mainly involved in creating slips (contracts) and other documents and helping the team in obtaining the critical information to present a risk.

What do you find most interesting about your industry?

There is so much to get involved with and everyday feels like a new learning experience. I work in the construction industry mainly and it’s really interesting to support different projects, not just within the UK but globally.

What skills are useful in your role?

Communication skills, critical thinking, relationship building, ownership and initiative.

What three top tips would you give your fellow Bright Network members wanting to follow in your footsteps?

  1. Be open minded to change.
  2. Be ready to take ownership and responsibility.
  3. Always look for opportunities - sitting back could mean you miss out on some great opportunities to grow. In other words, be proactive!
