Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?
I started at INVERTO as a Consultant straight after I graduated from my masters’ degree in 2023. I had previously completed consulting internships across the Big Four and also boutique consultancies. These experiences gave me the confidence to know that I wanted to develop a career in consulting whilst I was still a student.
Having studied topics such as international trade and supply chain, I was also looking to find a team that specialises in these areas. Therefore, I took a very targeted approach towards the type of firms I was applying to during my final year of study.
What was the application process like? What was the hardest part? What did you enjoy the most?
Consulting applications have become increasingly competitive amongst fresh graduates. However, the INVERTO recruitment team made the process very streamlined and personalised. I felt the culture of openness straight away, as I reached out and spoke to a few people from the London team to discuss their experiences and tips for the application process. In addition, the recruitment team provided me with close feedback after each round of interviews and walked me through each stage.
To me, the most interesting and also difficult part of the application process was the final round interview where I presented a topic of my choice to a senior member of the team. I definitely put pressure on myself to produce a “perfect” PowerPoint presentation. This is a challenging task as it tests a lot of skills required from a consultant. Namely, story lining, slide design, presentation and communication skills. Afterwards there was an interactive case study that made me feel as if I was a member of the team, solving the problem alongside the Managing Director. It allowed me to build a direct relationship with a senior member of the team and see the problem from an experienced angle.
Any tips for anyone who’d like to apply for a similar role at INVERTO?
I would like to emphasise the importance of practising case studies during your studies.
At INVERTO the case studies primarily focus on procurement topics. You don’t need to have a background in procurement, but showing genuine interest and a basic level of understanding of the industry topics, strategies and direction would go a long way. To understand the types of projects that INVERTO consultants tackle day to day, I went through the entire company website to read their case studies. I was immediately drawn in as the INVERTO website not only provides various examples of interesting cases, but also top-tier industry reports, supply chain-related white papers and procurement strategies. You can also read up about the levers that are utilised to tackle client problems. I would therefore really recommend any applicants or procurement enthusiasts to visit the INVERTO website!
The INVERTO style of interviews emphasise the testing of the practical skills of a consultant. Therefore, sharpening your PowerPoint skills and developing a good understanding of Excel analysis would support you during the interviews, especially in preparation for the final round. This would be beneficial for the start of any consulting career.
Finally, have fun! Enjoy the process and speak to as many people as you can to really understand the culture of the team. INVERTO has a great culture of openness so do not hesitate to drop someone a LinkedIn invite!
