Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?
I graduated from Cardiff University with a degree in Spanish & Economics in 2019, before I joined a local government procurement team. I spent nearly 3 years there and learned a lot, but wanted some experience in the private sector. I then moved to the construction team at a large European supermarket; managing the tendering and contract management for new London store openings.
In 2023, I decided I wanted a job with greater variety that would challenge me and allow me to develop quickly and consulting seemed like the best fit. After finding INVERTO and going through the interview process, I joined in May 2023.
As a Senior Consultant, I work as part of a wider project team, leading initiatives and supporting junior colleagues in delivering outcomes. My experience means that I specialise in construction projects, but I get exposure to all kinds of projects at INVERTO and have the chance to work in different industries.
What is a ‘normal day’ like in your role?
9:00 - 9.30
I get into the office, grab a coffee and some breakfast, ready to join my daily morning check-in.
I’m currently working on an implementation project, which means that I am hands-on with the client in actively putting our strategy in place. I’m finding contractors to deliver a large-scale construction project in New York, and my team and I are discussing our priorities and goals for the day.
9.30 - 12.00
I analyse and compare the bids with one another and with our initial estimates, in order to identify any areas where we believe we can gain additional value; and any in which bidders have ‘under-priced’ as this may indicate they have misunderstood the scope. I discuss the insights of the cost analysis with the clients, and some provisional ideas of how we could negotiate.
12.00 - 13.00
When we’re in the office, the team always has lunch together. We close our laptops and head up to the canteen to grab some food, take a break and have a good chat.
13.00 - 15.00
A couple of my colleagues and I are delivering a ‘knowledge academy’ focussed on procurement of construction services, aiming to share with the team some information about how they can successfully work on this type of project.
Knowledge academies are opportunities for our consultants to share insight amongst the rest of the team on topics they have expertise in, or projects they have recently completed.
15.00 - 18.30
Also, I have a 1-2-1 with my career advisor to discuss how things are going, as well as how I can develop my skills further to make an impact within my project. And for the rest of the day, I’m back on client work.
And on Thursdays, 6:30pm means laptops are shut and we head out of the office for a social!
What piece of advice would you give to someone who is thinking of applying to INVERTO?
The best advice I can offer is to ask for feedback and apply it. Get somebody in the company/industry to review your CV before submitting it and listen to their advice. The recruitment team is great at providing feedback at each stage, so ensure you’re listening to it and applying it wherever possible, as this will demonstrate your willingness to learn, which will help you fit into this wonderful team.
