How Lucas, a History Graduate, secured a role at Bain

I'm from Argentina but grew up in London. I studied History with Management Studies. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, trying new restaurants, and playing football and squash.

What’s your favourite part of your role?
Working in a team and learning from fantastic, friendly people, as well as seeing my work have a tangible impact on our clients.

What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day starts with a team meeting where we discuss each workstream’s key priorities. I support my supervisor on some client calls before presenting my analysis to the Senior Manager running the case. After a team lunch, I’ll spend the afternoon drafting a client data request, carrying out further analysis in Excel, and creating slides for a key client presentation. We’ll have an “End of Day” meeting to check back in with the team before finishing up a few final tasks and logging off. After work, I’ll play football or meet friends.

What inspired you to apply for a role at Bain?
I chose consulting because I wanted exposure to a variety of interesting industries and clients, and to learn key analytical and client-facing skills early in my career. I chose Bain for its collaborative, friendly culture and focus on personal development, particularly through its apprenticeship model.

What advice would you give to someone considering applying?
Schedule case prep with someone early on so you get used to doing cases (and maths!) in front of others. Also, remember the application process involves more than just case interviews – CVs and online tests are crucial too.
