A day in the life of Bukky, an Economic and Financial Consulting Graduate

Below, Economic and Financial Consultant, Bukky Kalejaiye, details what life at FTI Consulting is like. Bukky originally joined FTI as a Summer Intern. After experiencing their collaborative and supportive culture, she later joined their Graduate Programme.

What is your role and how long have you been at FTI?

I am an Economic and Financial Consultant and I have been at FTI since July 2022.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?

I studied Economics at Loughborough University, having also studied it at A-Levels.

What inspired you to apply for this role/company?

I really enjoyed my studies and wanted to be able to use what I’d learnt in my degree after graduating; this job allows me to do that. FTI is a leader in the sector and I wanted to work for/with the best.

What would a ‘normal’ day look like for someone in your role?

Every day is different but some of the tasks I do regularly include performing industry research, preparing and reviewing financial models and summarising my work in memos. A lot of the work is collaborative so meetings would also be included in a ‘normal’ day.

What do you find most interesting with the sector/industry you’re in?

The variety of client work is the most interesting thing in this sector, particularly the application of theory to the work.

What is the company culture like?

Company culture at FTI is great, it’s one of the reasons why I chose to rejoin the company after my summer internship. Everyone at the company is nice and open to help, a lot of great learning opportunities are given.

How important is diversity to you and what is FTI doing in this space at the moment?

Diversity is really important to me and FTI is doing a lot to increase their employee diversity. Efforts are really being made to increase diversity in the workplace through events and job opportunities specifically targeting minorities - I was a Future Leaders intern.

Finally, any tips for anyone who’d like to apply for a role at FTI?

Don’t be put off if you didn’t study a subject related to economics or finance - a genuine interest in the company and role will translate. And also, apply - you won’t regret it!
