I joined Goodwin in 2021 and am a partner in the Tax group, specialising in the tax aspects of complex cross-border public and private M&A transactions. I work closely with our private equity and technology and life sciences business units. Prior to joining Goodwin I was a partner in the London office of Kirkland & Ellis, and I started my career at Clifford Chance.
I was supported with scholarships and hardship bursaries at school and university, and I’m a first in my family to go to university and to become a lawyer.
What inspired you to pursue a career in Law?
I studied English Literature at university before switching to law. When it came to considering which route I would take after university, the mix of commercial and technical advice drew me to apply to City law firms. I was keen to work in an environment which was at the cutting edge of legal advice and where I’d be learning from people at the top of their field.
What has been the single most important thing you learnt so far in your career?
You can never ask too many questions.
What is the company culture like at Goodwin?
Goodwin in an incredibly collaborative place to work and a firm that really cares about creating a culture where people can succeed and feel valued as part of a team. It’s a very entrepreneurial place and there is opportunity for people at every level to get involved in the Firm’s growth and success.
Whilst the firm has seen significant global growth in the last few years, its core values are at the heart of its business strategy and are a common thread in all our offices and jurisdictions which has ensured that Goodwin has been able to expand without losing its positive culture.
How important is diversity to you and what is Goodwin doing in this space at the moment?
Diversity, equity and inclusion are very important to me, and to Goodwin. Commitment to being a diverse workplace and to ensuring equity of opportunity allows us to attract and retain the best talent in the marketplace. It also contributes to our inclusive culture.
As Co-Chair of the Women@Goodwin UK affinity group, I’m particularly focussed on the career path for women at Goodwin. We work closely with the other affinity groups to ensure that there is continuous programming for our female and other diverse attorneys to provide networking, training and support throughout their career progression.
