What do you do at Bloomberg?
I currently am managing multiple projects related to our acquisition of the Barclays Risk Analytics and Index Solutions business. These range from system migrations to employee transitions (and everything in between).
How has working in Analytics positioned you for your current role?
I’ve been at Bloomberg for almost 5 years now and throughout my time in Analytics, I learned an immense amount about the Customer Service industry. Particularly, how clients interact with client service representatives and through technological means. It also connected me to many different departments throughout the organization, and that knowledge and network has helped me drive results involving multiple stakeholders.
How has Bloomberg’s unique culture enabled you to succeed in your projects?
Bloomberg has a very open culture that encourages collaboration. In my current role, it’s a requirement that I get people and groups to action items without direct authority. Collaboration is one of the eight Bloomberg culture tenets and if the entire employee population did not believe in those tenets, it would make my job incredibly difficult.
“I have the opportunity to listen to client feedback and actually change processes to make their workflow easier.”
What are your favorite functions and what do they do?
And how do you describe what a function is? On the Bloomberg Terminal, there are a variety of tools that is reached via a shortcut abbreviation and it displays information or an interactive interface that enables the user to see data, news, and analytics to help them make informed financial and business decisions.
One of my favorite functions is PORT, which simulates trade scenarios and this helps our clients analyze portfolio risks before moving forward with a trade. Another one is IN, which allows a user to gain market insight by analyzing the Bloomberg family of indices.
What has been your most impactful accomplishment so far?
Seeing my work contribute to Bloomberg’s acquisition of the BRAIS business was incredibly impactful. I was in a working group that was responsible for making sure every BRAIS employee coming to Bloomberg could do their job without missing a beat once the transaction closed. Everything went extremely smooth, which allowed us to continue seamless business operations.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I have quite a few hobbies: sports, movies and the video game Destiny all need to be balanced with spending time with my wife and dog.
