What do you find most interesting about your industry?
It’s incredibly interesting how many different types of insurances there are and how specialised insurance can be. Before I joined Aon, I had no idea Product Recall or Political Risk insurance existed. It’s been very interesting discovering new areas of insurance.
Also, there is a lot of relationship building involved in being a broker, with insurers, clients and Aon colleagues from around the world, so it’s been fun having the opportunity to go to different events and socials to meet new people. Additionally, Aon has some huge, global and very interesting clients, so it has been exciting being able to meet and work with them.
What training have you received?
On the graduate programme, we have frequent training sessions focusing on a variety of topics. For example, some sessions cover communication skills, presentation skills and financial acumen.
Within the teams I’ve worked in, I have received a lot of support and training as everyone is happy to answer questions, take me through what they do and teach me the processes and procedures of insurance.
What three top tips would you give your fellow Bright Network members wanting to follow in your footsteps?
- Ask lots of questions and if you don’t understand something in a meeting, always note it down and ask later.
- Build relationships with your team members so you feel comfortable asking questions and they feel comfortable assigning you work and challenging you more.
- Get involved in any projects that may be available and be proactive.
