My first 8 months at Alpha FMC

Over the last eight months my time at Alpha has been abound with exciting opportunities and has truly exceeded my expectations of a graduate job in many ways. In brief, I’ve felt very fortunate to be in an environment where I feel continually encouraged and challenged to further my ability by the people I work with.

I joined Alpha at a very exciting time. We had successfully completed an IPO and experienced a year of excellent growth; in our team and in the market. During the past eight months I’ve worked on two projects with Alpha and, in the latter half, have worked as part of Alpha’s internal Bid team to produce the sales proposals that support our bids to win work with clients.

On my first project, I supported the review of a planned technology platform implementation for a leading UK Wealth Manager. On my second project, I supported the Alpha team with a vendor selection process as part of a platform consolidation for the aggregation of several different funds. In more recent months, I have collaborated in various small teams to produce sales-proposals for clients as part of Alpha’s internal Bid team. As a junior person in a company, it has been particularly exciting to contribute to the work that goes into winning our projects and I certainly didn’t expect to feel this close to the action in my first year. Working as part of Alpha’s Bid team has enabled me to gain insight across our 10 practices and has provided the opportunity to understand our unique offering and expertise in Asset Management.

Through both the project work and the opportunities to manage business areas within Alpha, the exposure offered to junior staff here is nothing short of exceptional. A particular highlight has been the engagement I’ve had with the Diversity & Inclusion committees as part of Alpha’s unique ‘business management’ offering. As part of the Culture & Social Mobility committee and the Well-Being committee, I’ve been able to contribute in a team of extremely passionate people who are shaping what it means to be part of Alpha. As part of Alpha’s web team, I’ve been supporting the launch of our new website and am supporting the production of thought leadership content on M&A Front Office integrations as part of Alpha’s M&A practice.

Above all, I’m continually astounded by the enthusiasm that drives Alpha’s various pursuits. The energy of the team extends beyond the office work in a way that makes being a part of Alpha feel highly rewarding. Rather frustratingly, it’s difficult to quantify the impact of this on your personal development and quality of life. But, I believe it’s one of the rarer and most valuable qualities that Alpha has to offer and is why I would highly recommend applying.
