What is your role at British Airways?

Currently I am in the brand team as a brand executive. My team looks after the direction of British Airways and what we want the brand to feel like. We touch all areas of the business, from ensuring that the correct logo is used, all the way to planning events, such as Christmas and Pride month.

What is the most important thing you’ve learned since starting?

I’ve learn’t how to refine my communication skills to match the person. Everyone is extremely busy, and so if your method of communication is concise and clear, your job will be much easier. If everyone knows what is required of them, everything will be much smoother.

How did you become a British Airways graduate? What was your journey into the role?

I submitted my application in the autumn term. British Airways didn’t require a CV and instead asked questions which allowed me to show my motivation. I then had to complete two tests, based on your maths and English skills. After this was a video interview, with pre-recorded questions. You do the video interview yourself and submit, so take your time! I then got invited to an online assessment centre. This involved an interview, a solo exercise, and a group exercise.

The solo and group exercise involved a British Airways related problem where I had to justify my decisions when picking solutions.

I then got a phone call offering me a place! This was around March. You then have to complete your referencing and I started in September. During this time, I had meetings with the rest of my cohort joining and we set up a group chat to stay in contact over the summer.

What top tips would you give to students wanting to follow in your footsteps?

My top tips:

  • Everyone at British Airways is willing to help, if you are interested in a scheme, reach out on LinkedIn or Speedbird Z.
  • Research British Airways values and behaviours- think about how you can show these throughout your application process.
  • Spend some time researching British Airways’ and aviation’s problems in general, this can give you a great holistic view.
  • Read the careers website to find out exactly what your scheme might entail, this can show your passion and initiative.
