Cheryn is a Data Science graduate from Durham University. She secured a graduate role at Beazley in London through Bright Network. 
First, please tell us a little bit about yourself.
“I’ve always been curious about patterns in the world around us, although it wasn’t always clear what that would mean for my career journey.
During my time working as an auditor in financial services I realised I wanted to work within the wider realm of data and patterns and not just within Financial Services. Because of this, I decided to go back into studying, to help me secure a role within the data industry.”
What motivated you to apply for the role?
“Definitely the culture. I enjoyed how everyone took their time to get to know me and to understand how I could fit into the role, which is one of the things that made Beazley stand out amongst the other companies I applied for.”
What was the application process like?
“Once I’d submitted my application, I was asked to complete some competency questions. I then had a video interview which led to the Assessment Day!”

What have you learnt from going through the process?
“I definitely learned to be less nervous throughout the process and that it actually helps to showcase yourself and your personality much more.”

“Overcoming my lack of experience with Python. I’ve been given achievable goals and tasks that have massively contributed to this.”
What are your tips for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
“My best piece of advice would be to remain open-minded and adaptable. Explore all your different avenues and expand your existing network to maximise your opportunities and success.”
Tell us about the future. What’s next?
“I’m hoping to take advantage of the opportunity given to me to advance my data science skills, so that I feel more confident and comfortable. I'd love to get to the point where I can continue passing the torch onto new members of the team.”
