Aniqah's success story: Securing a Planning Executive role at Zenith Media

Created on 7 Nov 2024
Aniqah is an English graduate from King's College London. She secured a graduate role as a Planning Executive at Zenith Media in London through Bright Network.

First, please tell us a little bit about yourself.

"Hi, I'm Aniqah. Growing up, my grades were pretty good, but I wasn't sure what I wanted to be.

I'd always been good at English, so I decided that was my best bet for University. After graduating, I knew I wanted to go into something both creative and analytical, so marketing seemed like the perfect field for me."

What motivated you to apply for your role?

"After researching the company, I was motivated to apply for the role because I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they were a global leader in advertising, with many well-known clients across various industries.

I knew that the role would allow me to gradually become familiar with the world of marketing, by working with professionals across the sector."

What was your application journey like?

"For preparation, I made sure to read up on the role and company, and to ensure my skills and resume fit the requirements.

I was most nervous about the assessment centre, but speaking to interviewers face-to-face was a refreshing change from online forms and tests. I had to learn as I went along, making note of the types of questions asked so that I'd be better equipped next time."

How did Bright Network help you secure your role?

"I wouldn't have found the job if I hadn't been browsing the Bright Network website. The layout was clear and helped me to understand what the role would require and if I would be the right fit for it."

What are you most proud of about your journey?

"I'm most proud of the fact that I never gave up! I'd been applying for internships on Bright Network the entire time I was at university and for graduate jobs for nearly two years before I succeeded. I may have lost hope at times, but it was all worth it."

What have you learned from going through the process?

"I learnt that the application process actually grows less intimidating the further you get along. The application and online tests are the most difficult part, and once I reached the assessment centre, I felt more comfortable and well-read in the role.

It's also much nicer to be able to converse with actual people, for me. The process had a few stages, but the company was very responsive throughout, and the whole process took less than two months. I wish I'd been more optimistic - your mood definitely reflects on how well you do!"

What are your tips for people looking to follow in your footsteps?

"When looking for roles, make sure that your resume has the skills mentioned in the job description.

Once you reach the interview stage, it's time to be yourself and win over the interviewers. Lastly, apply to all the roles you qualify for! You never know what'll happen."

Tell us about the future. What's next?

"I'm excited to be introduced to the world of marketing! I've always wanted to work in an office, so I'm looking forward to the 9-5 schedule.

Helping to work on ad campaigns for big companies and possibly seeing my results on screens and billboards is definitely a motivator for me. Hopefully I'll continue to learn about the sector and I'll continue developing my skills."
