YouView combines live TV channels with on-demand, unlocking a world of content on the living room TV.

We are offering a User Research internship, this is a great opportunity to join our team in June 2023 on a 12-month placement. As the User Research Intern you will have the opportunity to:

  • Get hands on experience of User Research with support from an experienced Senior User Research Manager learning a range of research methodologies from diary studies, one to one interviews, surveys, competitor research, remote user research and rapid iterative tests.
  • Learn how to use industry-leading platforms such as Miro, Dovetail, Typeform and UserInterviews
  • Experience working in an agile digital product design and development environment with teams made up of engineers, product designer and product managers.
  • Gain experience running and supporting the research process and how it fits into the end-to-end product design process. Gain experience of taking research insights into idea generation and design concepts.

The Role

This is an important role within the product design team, supporting the User Research manager in planning and conducting user research and usability testing to inform the design and development of the product.

In this role your responsibilities will be as follows

  • Provide support for the User Research manager with the planning and organisation of our user research programme, scheduling research sessions, recruiting participants, organising incentives.
  • Under the supervision of the User Research manager write screeners and discussion guides, learn to conduct user interviews, process the notes and videos to our research repository.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, involving the wider team in research activities, helping to analyse the findings and translate into recommendations.
  • When research is conducted in the office, organise and prepare the room for research, meet and greet participants. When research is remote: organise the sessions, take notes, ensure users have what they need to join the research sending out any appropriate devices or information as needed.
  • Providing support to help run the internal panel of users including communicating with them and checking they have the right software release. Engaging the panel with surveys and regular emails and identifying potential user research interview recruits
  • Ensuring that we record session details and consent forms appropriately for GDPR compliance

Skills and experience we are looking for

  • Curious about people and human behaviour and a good communicator able to put user research participants at ease
  • A fast learner, comfortable taking on new challenges such as setting up video equipment
  • Organised and detail orientated, able to plan time and organise the research diary
  • Have an understanding of digital product design and development and how user research informs the process
  • A good collaborator this role will be working with designers, product managers and developers.
  • A good communicator both written and oral, able to present clearly and talk through research findings clearly to team members
  • Comfortable using the Microsoft office suite and online tools such as Miro

Qualifications

  • You will be currently studying (2nd year) for an undergraduate or post graduate degree in one of: HCI/ Cognitive Psychology/ Anthropology/ Sociology/ Computer Science / UX or Product Design
  • A-levels
  • Live in London

  • 1 st stage competency and Values interview
  • 2 nd stage a task to take and home and then come and present it
  • 3 rd stage meet the team
