Wood is recruiting for Graduate Engineers to join our Mechanical Engineering team across our Digital Consulting business based in our Northampton office.

The role

Wood is deeply committed to the development of their people and recognises the importance of growing a talented team of professionals with expertise in Digital Consulting in order to ensure the future success of the organisation and the Energy sectors that we support.

As a Mechanical Engineering Graduate, you will be given on the job training and learn how to assist in the provision of cost effective, accurate and professional mechanical engineering activities for special purpose machinery supporting Wood assignments / project teams and clients.

You will initially work on some of our smaller projects with the support and guidance from a supervisor / mentor and learn how to provide innovative concepts and designs using 3D CAD (Solidworks) as automation solutions to customers. You will be involved in FMEA, risk assessments and regulatory marking of machinery and supporting procedures. The work includes detail design and geometric tolerancing of all component drawings together with generating innovative low risk concepts for sales inquiries.

At the end of the graduate scheme, you will have the skills to develop into a Senior Mechanical Engineer or possibly other routes e.g. estimating / proposals for automated solutions.

We are looking for high-achieving graduates with a degree in Mechanical or Design Engineering, and a desire to learn – the ideal candidate should have; an understanding / interest in mechanical engineering or engineering design and the different processes involved, e.g. 3D CAD design, design to cost, budget control and planning, enjoy collaborating across multi-discipline teams, problem solving / trouble-shooting, detailed analysis, willing to embrace new ideas, and most importantly; take on assignments outside their comfort zone to progress and learn new approaches.

  3. We will aim to review applications in November / December
  4. We will then be holding screening calls throughout December with those candidates that fit the criteria below
  5. Shortlisted candidates will receive invitations to assessment centres in January
  6. Assessment centres will take place in January / February depending on location and discipline

Expected

  • Educated to Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant technical or business discipline (or equivalent gained through relevant vocational training and / or industry experience). As an example you may have a degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic or Design Engineering.
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary team environments
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Effective organisation and planning skills
  • Good communication skills both written and oral
  • Uses initiative and a proactive approach to problem solving
  • The right to work in the UK
  • Previous experience either voluntary or work placement within an Engineering environment is desirable
