This varied and busy role will see you providing process and scientific support at our water recycling centres in the southern part of our region. What youll do

Our Scientists help ensure that we comply with all regulatory requirements and there is no detrimental impact to the environment through our operations. Within the Southern Science team, you will be assisting the Area Process Scientists as well as the local Operations team.

As a Development Scientist, you will help ensure compliance with quality standards at water recycling centres, including numerical, descriptive, flow and waste permits. Applying your scientific knowledge you will assist in the planning and delivery of measures to improve compliance, reduce operational costs and minimise pollutions.

Additionally, you will be involved with the following:

  • monitoring and sampling sewage treatment processes
  • assisting the Area Process Scientists
  • providing process support during operational issues and emergencies
  • providing technical support to operational staff to protect and maintain quality
  • liaising with various internal and external stakeholders, including the Environment Agency.

What youll need

In order to succeed in this role, you will hold a basic knowledge of sewage treatment processes and environmental law, as well as a degree, or working towards a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline.

We would like someone who is extremely organised and able to collect, collate, analyse and present scientific data. You will be comfortable working outdoors in all weathers. You are going to be joining a very welcoming and supportive team. You'll need to be able to build professional and supportive relationships with your fellow colleagues, as well as being able to confidently engage and influence various internal stakeholders.

In addition, you will have:

  • IT literacy
  • data analysis skills, while also being comfortable using Microsoft Excel to an intermediate level
  • a full UK driving licence.
