A little bit about our team

Warner Chappell UK is a team based in our London office. We have various departments, including Copyright, Royalties, Income Tracking, Finance, Digital, Legal and Business Affairs, A&R, Synchronisation, Production Music and Creative Services. The UK team collaborates with other teams in our global affiliate offices to deliver our service to our songwriters. 

Your role  

Are you passionate about music publishing and ready to dive into an exhilarating journey in the industry? Join our dynamic team for an exciting internship program lasting approximately 10 months. During this time, you will have the opportunity to rotate across our diverse teams to gain a well-rounded knowledge of how we support our songwriters.

Each day will bring new opportunities, with a balance of administrative support work and creative tasks. Embrace the chance to work on various projects, effortlessly shifting between tasks while prioritising the team's needs. This is your opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations about music and play a vital role in shaping the future of our business.

We want to encourage candidates from a diverse background, with an interest in music publishing, it is not necessary to have prior experience. 

Here you’ll get to

The rotation will include the following

Tracking:

  • Familiarise yourself with the main industry metadata (ISWC, ISRC) and recognise the ways they can be used to find income gaps. 
  • Learn how to track, read and use the main industry files to recognise income gaps and how income providers receive usage information. 

Royalties: 

  • Gain an understanding of Royalties being reported outward to clients, the processes within a full royalty distribution cycle and how we can use this information in analytical work.
  • Understanding different income sources/partners, their timelines, and why we have them.

Sync: 

  • An introduction to how sync operates and the different aspects of what we do; deal negotiation, licensing, pitching, playlisting, new business, manager/writer relations, client relations and affiliates.

Creative Services: 

  • Get to know a unique department within music publishing. Gain insight into how we manage and implement creative marketing projects to amplify our catalogues and songwriters. 
  • Working across multiple verticals including partnerships, influencer marketing, short-form content, IP development, immersive, content creation and more.

Finance: 

  • Assist with various activities across the team, such as performing analysis on our historic financial reporting.
  • Understanding of forecasting income for the future, e.g. research into the number of streams or radio spins for a particular writer, to forecast upcoming royalties.

Legal Business Affairs:

  • Learn about the key terms of music publishing contracts and how we contract with songwriters.
  • Understand how samples are licensed and how to deal with copyright infringement claims.

Copyright:

  • Understand how Publishing Contracts are translated into our internal Publishing System.
  • Assist with the registration of works and gain an understanding of the global PRO/CMO network.

Digital:

  • Learning about digital licensing and rights flow, and the different publishing rights used by digital services. 
  • Work closely alongside the team to gain knowledge of how we respond to licensing queries originating from WCM’s automated licensing scheme.

A&R:

  • Learn about A&R coordination.
  • Attending our weekly A&R, Roster and Creative meeting.
  • Working closely with all our A&R managers to help with sessions, song uploads and updating the looking list.

About you

  • We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with a passion for music publishing who are ready to bring many new ideas and become an integral part of the team. 
  • You will need to be well organised, have good attention to detail and have a desire to work across different geographies and cultures, learn and develop during your year.
  • You’ll be a brilliant team player with a particular enthusiasm for communicating – whether that’s with a colleague in person or on a phone call, via email or video call.
  • A broad range of musical knowledge.
  • Self‐directed, motivated and willing to learn and take initiative.
  • Proficiency using Google Workspace - Sheets, Slides, Docs, Gmail.
