The role
Vertex is looking for an enthusiastic, curious and dedicated student to join our International Supply Chain team for a one-year Industrial Placement. The Oxford Learning Lab is devoted to enhancing science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) education in our community. It hosts several STEAM programs where visiting students work alongside Vertex professionals to inspire scientific inquiry and develop the next generation of scientists.
The Oxford Learning Lab student will gain experience developing, adapting, and delivering STEAM lessons, while working directly with local schools and Vertex scientists. They will support all aspects of the work of the Oxford Learning Lab and have the opportunity to partner with Learning Lab volunteers, and Vertex scientists.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with the development and delivery of STEAM activities
- Set up the lab and prepare practical materials (e.g. prepare reagents) prior to student visits and breakdown and clean up after students leave
- Support and complete administrative tasks associated with student visits and events (e.g. administer participant questionnaires, student and volunteer tracking)
- Manage and maintain lab supplies and inventory
- Support the training of STEM ambassadors
Qualifications (required)
- Currently studying STEM degree
- Passionate about teaching and working with students
- Strong interest in science education, science communication, public engagement, outreach, or social justice work
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to organise, multitask, prioritise work and problem solve
- Self-motivated; able to deliver results with limited direction
Note this position will run from September 2025 to August 2026

1. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
