BNU continues to experience rapid growth in student numbers, making us one of the fastest-growing higher education providers. This is an exciting time to join the University as our significant estates’ development programme gets underway, and we prepare to embark on our new University Strategy.
This is fixed term 11 month contract starting on 1st September 2022 for a recent graduate to gain insight into and contribute to the work of the University Library service. We are looking for a reliable, customer focused person to join the Library and Learning Resources team. You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be willing to learn about supporting students and staff in a busy university library.
This role would suit a recent graduate looking to gain experience of working in a university library service before progressing onto a postgraduate qualification and/or a career in library and information services. The post holder will be given training on a range of library work, and have the opportunity to complete a self-directed graduate project to support their development.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Staff the library counter to provide support for students and staff including; using the library management system to issue and return books, and finding physical and virtual resources using the library catalogue.
- Assist users with both the self-service machines and the MFDs (printers).
- Provide remote support to students and staff through phone and email enquiries.
- Produce and update support materials for students including paper guides, online 'Libguides' and videos.
- Shelving returned library books using the Dewey Decimal System, and shelf tidying to ensure correct ordering is maintained.
- Process new books and other library materials, and repair existing stock.
- Maintain the tidy appearance of the library.
- Process reading lists to help students find materials more easily.
- Comply with the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR; Health and Safety; and Equality and Diversity requirements and legislation in all working practices.
- Such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required.
