The Engine Plant based in Deeside, North Wales is a high-tech manufacturing facility supplying premium quality hybrid engines to Toyota vehicle plants around the world with ambitions for the future. We are a compact organisation in which office members work alongside their manufacturing colleagues.

Your time here

The Toyota Industrial Placement programme will stretch your problem-solving skills and introduce you to people at all levels, all over the business. It is designed to help you develop your professional and personal capabilities prior to your final year at university and give an opportunity to gain experience as an industry professional. It's a challenging scheme, but you’ll receive plenty of support from your mentor, managers, and colleagues. On the Industrial Placement programme, you'll get to see the breadth of our business, working on valuable projects with our Facilities and Environmental Engineering Team.

You will be involved in all aspects of environmental compliance; reporting (both internally and to external bodies) and tracking energy, emissions, and waste streams to ensure best practice. You will also be involved in developing solutions to reduce reliance on fossil fuels within our processes in order support our transition to Net Zero manufacturing.

Potential projects include

  • Environmental reporting
  • Carbon neutral roadmap and energy reduction projects
  • Harmony with nature and biodiversity improvement projects

What we look for

We are looking for someone with a keen interest in the environment, with a working knowledge of natural cycles, pollution sources, pathways and receptors. An understanding of environmental management is also required. Having already achieved or working towards an IEMA certificate in Environmental Management or equivalent is desirable but not essential. The ideal candidate will be familiar with EMS and environmental decision making/reporting to be able to apply environmental legislation to the manufacturing plant to support the journey to Net Zero.

Alongside having a consistently strong academic record, with a minimum 2:1 predicted degree result* we are looking for people who actively want to learn from others and are motivated to take on new challenges with a positive mindset. We believe that there's always a better way, therefore if you share our values and thrive on analysing problems from different angles to develop solutions, you could go a long way with us. Similarly, taking a practical approach to your work is important – you will need to be as comfortable on the shop floor as you are in the office.

*Environmental Engineering/Environmental Science/Ecology or similar environment-themed degree discipline required.

Additional Requirement: Right to live and work in the UK indefinitely & ideally UK driving license.
