The role

The main business of the Trade Credit Division of Tokio Marine HCC is underwriting Trade Credit Insurance policies to a wide range of businesses, predominantly in the UK. Trade Credit Insurance provides protection to customers against bad debts arising from insolvency and is a valuable tool in supporting their credit management.

The purpose of this role is to provide support to a wide range of functions across the Trade Credit business- from sales, policy management, risk underwriting though to claims and innovation.  We will provide training and experience across all areas with the aim of finding a role in the most suitable area for you at the end of the training programme.

Progression Expectations: The successful candidate will be immediately placed in a permanent role moving between different teams before landing in a permanent team as an Underwriter or Claims Technician within 2 years. Further progression is possible for an outstanding performer, with excellent earning potential in the financial services sector.

This role would be working as part of the Trade Credit team.

  • Location: Based in Leicestershire with some time spent in London. Hybrid working is also available following an initial training – this offers up to 2 days per week working from home.
  • Study support: The company would provide assistance for external training courses as appropriate for the role including sponsoring any relevant professional qualification. Likely options would be CII (Chartered Insurance Institute) or CICM (Chartered Institute of Credit Managers)
  • Working Hours:   0900 to 1700 hours. Monday to Friday inclusive.  35-hours week.  Flexibility in start and finish times (0830 to 0930 and 1630 to 1730 respectively)

Responsible To:  Underwriting Director, Trade Credit Insurance and team managers

Liaison With               

  • Internal –Underwriting Heads and Manager(s), trade credit underwriters, claims technicians, other departments as necessary (finance, statisticians, compliance & legal, internal audit and claims)
  • External –brokers and clients (both existing and potential or new) , lawyers, debt collectors, information agencies                                                                                                                   

Key responsibilities

  • Assisting in underwriting trade credit risks in line with agreed strategy and personal authority limits
  • Information gathering and research on trade credit risks.
  • Financial analysis, and report preparation on trade credit risks
  • Assisting with claim investigations and processing
  • Communicating and explaining decisions made both internally and externally
  • Maintain company records and IT systems
  • Identify and escalate potential risks
  • Assist with market and product development
  • Liaise with other departments to provide and share financial, market and sector information (Surety, Claims, Statistical)
  • Other duties as reasonably requested by the management, including some out of hours working as required

Performance Objectives and Early Deliverables 

The successful candidate will be expected to have gained a good understanding of the internal trade credit processing systems, a reasonable understanding of the trade credit policy and an understanding of the broker and insurer market we operate in. All training will be provided.

Skills and Experience 

Essential

  • Upper second class Batchelor’s degree preferably in Law, Business or Finance, Quantity Surveying however we will consider applicants with degrees in other analytical subjects.
