Beyond is a new Early Careers equality, diversity, and inclusion initiative that recognises the lack of diversity in the legal sector and acknowledges barriers that may be in place to enter the industry. For the inaugural cycle (2024-2025) the programme will focus on candidates from ethnic minority backgrounds.

At TLT, everyone is welcome. You can be open about who you are and what you stand for - we encourage everyone to be their whole self, to have a voice and to contribute.  Inclusion is at the core of our strategy, and we’re committed to delivering sustainable and meaningful change. We’re trusted to deliver a workplace that is open and inclusive and where everyone is supported in their work, development, and wellbeing.

What to expect during the TLT Vacation Scheme

Beyond candidates will automatically be offered a place on our Vacation Scheme. The Vacation Scheme is a paid work experience programme whereby you will work on live legal work under the supervision of a fee-earning member of staff. The Vacation Scheme is designed to provide you with an insight into the life of a Trainee Solicitor at TLT, working with our clients to provide a range of legal services.

No two days will be the same, however, your time with TLT will consist of: working on live cases; attending meetings; attending court/events with your team; reviewing documentation; attending social events; and just experiencing our culture first-hand.

Those who attend the Vacation Scheme will be considered for a Training Contract with TLT. In England, TLT is now committed to the SQE as a route to qualification and will only facilitate and sponsor studying this with our preferred Training Provider; those who hold the LPC will be exempt from the SQE 1 examination. From time to time we may have earlier start dates available based on business need, the Early Careers team will discuss this opportunity with you at offer stage based on the information provided on your application. Those in Scotland will undertake the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice.

Beyond minimum requirements:

  • Penultimate year/final year law student*; or
  • Final year non-law student or graduate from any discipline (PGDL will be required prior to commencement of SQE prep course);
  • 2:1 degree (obtained or predicted)

*In Scotland Beyond is open to Law Students/Graduates/Accelerated LLB students only.

This programme is part of our commitment to eliminate barriers to entry into the legal profession for ethnically diverse aspiring lawyers. We are actively seeking applications from individuals from ethnic minority backgrounds.

Candidates who narrowly miss out on a place on the Beyond programme will be automatically considered for a Vacation Scheme with TLT.
