The role

To support the Design Manager and project delivery team in managing the design of complex and multiple construction projects through design phases. You will develop construction knowledge and experience that will enable you to prepare innovative and cost-effective design solutions, working with the design and project delivery team, to ensure practical buildability, in line with the specification and compliance.

What you will be doing

  • Assist in developing innovative design solutions to clients briefs with input from the professional design team and subcontractors.
  • Develop relationships with clients during early concept stages; manage expectations of the project through regular communication and discussions regarding requirements and specifications.
  • Build up and maintain the relationship with the client, subcontractors and professional design team and resolve any queries.
  • Identify and check contents for Contractors Proposals, qualifications list, design information and marketing documentation to accompany the tender.
  • Keep up to date with latest construction techniques and legislation.
  • Review the design on an ongoing basis, identify potential interface problems & practicalities in construction and resolve where appropriate.
  • Assist in ensuring smooth handover of the project to the project team and provide essential support throughout operational delivery
  • Document Control and assist in the preparation and management of information schedules.
  • Attend Contractor selection interviews, including preparation beforehand.
  • Assist in revising bid documentation to identify risk, opportunity, insufficient information, inadequate or incorrect design and compliance.
  • Attend meetings as appropriate, where required record minutes and actions and ensure implementation.
  • Assist in producing monthly reports as required to the Regional Design & Planning Manager.

Entry requirements

  • Holds a degree in a relevant subject such as architecture, design and construction management (or derivative of) with a 2:2 classification and above or expected to achieve on graduation in 2025
  • Holds a full UK driving licence or will hold a full UK driving licence by August 2025. Expect exciting travel opportunities to various construction sites and project locations.

What we look for from you

  • Experience gained from a year in industry or summer placement with a Construction or Civil Engineering Contractor (highly desirable)
  • Strong attention to detail and focus.
  • Be committed, organised and show a good work ethic.
  • Able to work both alone and in a team environment.
  • Be able to contribute effectively to meetings and present information in a variety of ways including oral and written
  • Be able to work with others in a collaborative way
  • Possess excellent general IT skills with experience of MS packages e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word (essential).
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings
  • Ability to write clear and precise reports and to relate complex information simply to a diverse range of people.
  • Ability to work in a multi-functional and dynamic team environment assisting with the smooth running of a variety of projects.
  • Self-motivated with the enthusiasm to learn and develop.
  • Ability to take responsibility and be accountable.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Practical and logical qualities with a methodical way of thinking
  • Creative and innovative approach to problem-solving
  • Strong communication skills
