We are currently recruiting for a Graduate Electrical Engineer to join our Cement and Packed Products Team at our Aberthaw site, close to Rhoose, Vale of Glamorgan in South Wales. The role is easily commutable from St Athan, Llantwit Major, Barry, Cardiff, Bonvilston, Cowbridge, Llanblethian, Gibbons Down, Penarth, Pontypridd, Bridgend, Newport, Caerphilly, Tafs Well, Cwmbran, Porth, Tonypandy, Sarn, Pencoed, Llantrisant, Pencoed, Port Talbot, Swansea, Neath and the surrounding areas.

Role responsibility

As part of the UK and Ireland Cement and Packed division you as a Graduate Electrical Engineer will participate in our 3-year graduate scheme, helping you to make decisions to deliver business impact, present powerfully, communicate effectively and many more key skills. You will play an important role in keeping UK infrastructure moving, contributing towards the successful production of cementitious products. An exciting role where you can see the outputs of your hard work all around you (quite literally!)​

Key focus of Graduate Electrical Engineer position, not exhaustive

  • Learn your Engineering craft, gaining a detailed understanding of Cement Engineering, Manufacturing and Production via a dedicated Tarmac development programme and the CRH International Technical Programme
  • Contribute to successful continuous plant performance
  • LV/HV Installations:
    • IEE 18th Edition Wiring Regulations - design, install and testing of electrical installations.
    • Electricity at Work Regulations (1989), and the Quarry Regulations (1999), specifically inspection and test regime
    • Fault level analysis and capability to specify and set fuse sizes, feeder over current and transformer residual earth fault protection
    • HV and LV switchgear, cable and transformer system inspection and test regimes
  • Instrumentation Systems:
    • Process instrumentation and calibration of, e.g. load cells for weigher systems, level control devices, PID controllers, etc
    • Control and Safety Systems
    • Understanding of the application and design of safety critical control systems and associated interlocks (electrical [Pilz] and mechanical [Castel/Fortress])
    • Appreciation and programming/fault rectification on PLC systems associated with works, e.g. SLC/PLC5/Control Logix, Siemens S7/S8, etc and associated top level SCADA
  • Implementation of capital projects from conception to hand over of a working system
  • Fully Conversant with Company Policy's Systems and Procedures:
    • Ensure the company Integrated Management System is adhered to in all aspects related to engineering
  • Assist in tracking key process parameters and analyse data to optimise plant performance, making recommendations for modifications
  • Gain knowledge, understanding and practical application of all safety policies, procedures and practices and be active in leading and driving safety standards and improvements
  • Involvement in root cause analysis to understand the associated costs and business impacts resulting from plant un-planned downtime
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of the integration of new systems into our plant operations
  • Whilst your first 3 years will primarily be based on one Plant you will then be expected to gain valuable experience on Plants across our UK and Ireland Cluster or participate in an exciting international assignment
  • Taking pride in all work completed and being determined to succeed​!

To be successful for this role the ideal candidate for the position of Graduate Electrical Engineer will have, or be able to demonstrate:

Essential qualification

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Willing to work in different locations across UK and Ireland (and international assignments in the future)

  • Organisational, Communication and Analytical skills
