The role

The Junior Product Architect reports to the Principal Architect in the Engineering group, and will be responsible for contributing to the architecture of Sycurio products delivered from the Engineering group.

The Junior Product Architect will work with the Product Management team and other members of the Architecture team to turn business requirements into software architecture designs for new products and feature enhancements to existing products. They will remain the technical owner of the feature as it progresses through development and QA to release, collaborating with engineers at all stages to create a reliable and supportable solution. Working with the Security group, the Junior Product Architect is also responsible for ensuring all designs embrace security as an inherent characteristic.

This is an ideal role for someone who is starting their architectural career path. You don’t need to have held an architect title role before, but you should have experience of designing software or systems and want to move your career towards architecture. You will be exposed to a wide variety of technologies and approaches, from software design to cloud system architecture and automation across high volume event driven payment systems, front end systems, telephony, reporting and monitoring. This will include work on both our Sycurio.Voice product and the transformation journey we are undertaking with a move to Cloud and microservices-based architecture, and also work on our Sycurio.Digital product. Priorities include Security, Scalability, Ease of Implementation, Cost optimisation and Integration within customer ecosystems.

The Junior Product Architect will also

  • provide technical consultancy for new initiatives
  • ensure project designs are compliant to architectures and standards
  • help shape, create, develop and evolve the architecture that underpins the products
  • validate the architecture against the requirements of the software products and corporate and technical strategies
  • assist in the preparation of documents explaining the architecture to sponsors and stakeholders both internally and externally.

Key attributes & experience

  • Exemplary written and spoken English, with an ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences across the business on both a technical and commercial level
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to synthesise new knowledge from documentation, training, discussion and experimentation
  • System design – ability to decompose requirements into domains, and specify overall system behaviour
  • Experience of public cloud systems (ideally AWS) – design, implementation and automation, including an understanding of their pros and cons
  • Familiarity with modern software development practices
  • Experience of programming in Java or another modern language
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as PCI DSS, HIPAA, and GDPR
  • Experience of some of:
    • data analytics (e.g. ElasticSearch/ OpenSearch, Kibana/ Grafana)
    • telephony (SIP, RTP)
    • networking
    • databases (especially NoSQL)
    • user interface design
    • onboarding and provisioning processes
  • Effective time management skills to prioritize tasks across multiple major projects, especially when working under tight deadlines.
  • Pragmatic and commercially focused approach to problem solving

Background

  • Degree level qualification in Computer Science or similar numerate discipline

Additional Information

  • Amount of travel: light (<15d / year)
  • Primarily an internal role, although communication with customers will be required from time to time
  • Hybrid role, ideally 1-2 days per week in the Guildford office
