We are currently looking for a talented and motivated Civil Engineer to join our Renewable Energy Infrastructure team in Glasgow.

Our energy infrastructure teams are recognised industry leaders and operate across several markets within the diverse landscape of energy generation and distribution. We work for a range of clients including energy developers, operators, and contractors. We use the latest design software and techniques to produce innovative and efficient design solutions for our clients.

Role Description

Working as a Civil Engineer in the Energy Infrastructure team we will offer you exposure to varied project work, operating both client side and in a design and build environment. Engaging with our clients in partnership to develop the most effective design solutions for projects that help meet the challenges of net zero emissions.

You will be responsible for assisting with the delivery of civil infrastructure design packages and aiding the coordination of multi-discipline civil infrastructure design for renewable energy projects for our contractor and developer clients.

The role includes supporting or being responsible for the production of design packages for concept, tender and detailed design phases of renewable energy projects:

  • Wind, transmission or other renewable energy project infrastructure access design with consideration of buildability, electrical component transport standards, environmental constraints and statutory approvals.
  • Assisting with the coordination of environmental, geotechnical, structural or other specialist disciplines to assist in the provision of Sweco’s core multi-disciplinary design service covering site investigation, geotechnical assessment of foundations, material reusability, turbine foundation design, bridge design, control building design and construction monitoring and quality assurance.
  • Site layout and route options for the concept design for planning approval and environmental impact assessment purposes.
  • Bridge and retaining structure geometry considering structural form and flooding levels and coordination of geotechnical and structural design.
  • Catchment assessments, culvert hydraulic design including authorisations.
  • Sustainable drainage design for rural or urbanised sites including consultation and authorisation with statutory consultees;
  • Public highway design concepts or detailed design including geometry, drainage, signs, markings, swept-path analysis, considering pavement design and development of construction details for temporary or permanent modifications related to facilitating electrical component delivery including road authority consultation and consent.

Who You Are

To be successful in this role you’ll possess:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or similar qualification.
  • Graduate membership with the Institution of Civil Engineers or similar is desirable ideally with some progress towards development objectives is also desirable.
  • Relevant Civil infrastructure design expertise.
  • The ability to create engineering drawings using AutoCAD software.
  • Experience of modelling and analysis of linear type construction using Civils 3D modelling software.
  • Knowledge of construction materials including on-site testing.
  • Experience in the delivery of design packages and obtaining statutory or third-party approval.
  • Multi-disciplinary knowledge relating to environmental, geotechnical, structural or other specialist disciplines.
  • The ability to produce concise engineering drawings or high-quality presentation drawings, technical reports and calculations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
