Project Management Summer Placement 2025 – Transmission

Start Date: 12 weeks commencing June 2025

Base Locations: Inverness, Aberdeen, Argyll, Skye, or Glasgow

Salary: circa £23,422 per annum (pro-rata) + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances, and wellbeing.

Degree Disciplines: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management or any STEM subject.

Our Transmission Project Management summer placements provide real hands-on experience through a 12 week placement in either our Capital Delivery and Development Team or our EGL Project Team. You will have the opportunity to gain practical knowledge into a Project Managers responsibility for the end-to-end delivery of projects.

This placement is designed to develop your understanding on delivering projects in line with clear objectives and making decisions to manage stakeholder expectations by working with a multi-skilled team to deliver the project to time, cost and quality requirements.

About our Teams

Capital Development and Delivery: Seeking a summer placement student to help support the successful delivery of transmission projects needed to meet the UK government’s 2030 net zero targets. Working with the Project Manager, a typical day will involve collaborating with a wider team to plan, execute and monitor projects during the refinement and construction phases. Working closely with Contractors to successfully deliver our projects, you will have the opportunity to be based both in the office and on-site. This will require a flexible approach to working both in a team and undertaking some tasks working alone. You will also develop an understanding of our safety culture and values.

This team are based in Inverness, Aberdeen, Skye, or Argyll & Bute, and are looking for students studying electrical, mechanical, civil engineering, project management, construction management or a STEM related degree.

Eastern Green Link (EGL) Project: Is being delivered as a Joint Venture between SSENT (Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks) and NGET (National Grid Electricity Transmission). This is part of a wider portfolio of Eastern projects being executed on the Eastern Coast of the UK mainland. The EGL2 project consists of a 2GW HVDC link from Peterhead in the Northeast of Scotland to Drax at Wren Hall in North Yorkshire, England, with associated AC onshore works. We are looking for summer placement students to help ensure safe and sustainable delivery of scope elements on time and within budget.

This team are based in Glasgow and are looking for students studying electrical, mechanical or civil engineering.

What do I need to join?

We are looking for candidates with the above listed disciplines.

We'd love you to have some practical work or project experience that reflects your passion for the energy sector, as well as demonstrable experience of working in a team. You'll also be comfortable working to and setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges and should have a genuine interest in SSE and the prospect of a long-term future with us.
