Engineering Industry Year Placements 2025 - Transmission

Start Date: 12 weeks commencing June 2025

Base Locations: Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen or Inverness

Salary: circa £23,422 per annum (pro-rata) + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances, and wellbeing.

Working Pattern:  Fixed Term | Full Time | Flexible First options available

Degree Disciplines: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering.

Our Transmission Industry Year Placements provide real hands-on experience through a 12-month placement in either our HVDC Engineering team or our Project Engineering Team.

Throughout your placement, you will have the support of a business mentor and buddy who will provide guidance and support to enable you to reach your full potential.

About our Teams

HVDC (High-voltage direct current): is the most efficient way to transport electricity over long distances, and it is particularly beneficial for subsea transmission. Due to the increasing need to connect more remote renewable generation schemes, such as offshore wind farms, SSEN Transmission are working on a significant number of new HVDC schemes deployed in Great Britain over the coming years. This team are based in Inverness, Glasgow or Perth.

Project Engineering: is a core technical department within SSEN Transmission, at the centre of the transition to Net Zero. You will be trained to work on multimillion pound infrastructure projects covering innovations that will allow us to meet technological challenges. This team are based in Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen or Inverness.

What do I need to join?

To be considered for the role, you will be studying a degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering (or a mix of these disciplines).

Our opportunities are open to students who are in their 2nd year of their degree onwards and will graduate between 2026 and 2028.

We'd love you to have some practical work or project experience that reflects your passion for the energy sector, as well as demonstrable experience of working in a team. You'll also be comfortable working to and setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges and should have a genuine interest in SSE and the prospect of a long-term future with us.
