As part of our commitment to foster diversity and inclusion, Nature seeks a journalism intern with a passion for science, reporting and writing to join our friendly, dynamic news team. Science journalism suffers from a lack of diversity and many groups and perspectives are currently under-represented. To address this, we are seeking candidates who believe they can improve the diversity of our news team or our coverage or both.

About the role

If hired, you will spend three months working with reporters and editors across the news team. You will write articles for our audience of working scientists and build up a portfolio of published work. Although interns primarily cover news, you could also have the opportunity to write features or other articles. The position is a paid, full-time training and development opportunity.

To apply, please send a CV and a short supporting statement (no more than 500 words) that explains what you will bring to the role and why you feel you are well placed to help to improve diversity, equity and inclusion in our newsroom and/or our coverage. We are especially interested to hear from applicants from groups that are under-represented in science journalism, in particular candidates of Black heritage, which includes those who identify as Black, African, Caribbean, Black British or Mixed/Multiple ethnic groups.

You may also submit writing samples —  such as links to a blog or any previously published work — to support your application. You should have (or be studying for) a degree in a STEM subject and a strong interest in writing or journalism, or have a background in journalism and a demonstrable understanding of science or technology.

The internship is based in Nature’s London office, but could be partly remote. Please indicate your preferred start date in your application.

At Springer Nature we value and celebrate the diversity of our people. We recognize the many benefits of a diverse workforce and strive for an inclusive workplace that empowers all our colleagues to thrive. Our search for the best talent fully encompasses and embraces these values and principles.
