What you’ll be doing
On our Data Science internship, you’ll have exposure across the business as you work with our stakeholders to help drive decision making using the power of data and insights. You’ll learn analytical techniques and use cutting edge predictive algorithms to deliver valuable insight to the business. You could be helping to build our next data product, predicting future customer behaviour, or unlocking the value of our content.
You’ll get exposure to different teams in Sky Data:
- Advanced Analytics - team full of data scientists that use customer level, big / deep data sets from Sky.
- Commercial Analytics & Experimentation - owners of Commercial Analytics data products at Sky. They provide recommendations through Data Science and work in close partnership with stakeholders.
What we’re looking for
The one essential requirement is that you’re currently studying for an undergraduate degree integrated masters in any subject, and in your penultimate year. You’re likely to be studying maths, statistics, computer science, economics, physics or be able to demonstrate your understanding of the use of data through personal or university projects. We’re interested in your passion for data and the drive and ambition you can bring to the team.
Other skills you may have include:
- Logical, end to end thinker
- An enthusiastic problem-solver, with numerical, presentation and IT skills
- Previous experience in data manipulation using Python, SQL, R, SAS, MATLAB
- Machine learning - academic experience on Supervised/unsupervised learning, regression, decision trees, random forests, boosting
- Enjoy task-focused delivery, a fast-paced environment and overcoming challenges
- Collaborative, great with people and keen on following recent trends in the market.
Your application journey
Step 1 – Submit your application.
We’ll be asking for your personal details, academic information and anything else that you think would be relevant such as work experience.
Once your application has been submitted, you’ll be invited to complete our immersive digital assessments. This may land in your junk folder so don’t forget to check it.
Step 2 – Complete our online digital assessments.
Complete our online digital assessments. These look at your Sky fit, business fit, and your ability to code. Why not pop onto our dedicated Preparation hub to familiarise yourself with some of these digital assessments before completing them.
You’ll also have the opportunity to practice each of these assessments beforehand, so please read our email instructions carefully. We’ve added some tips to help you along the way.
The coding test involves basic SQL/Python, so we recommend familiarising yourself with these before starting. We don’t expect to know everything so during this test; you can also refer to websites or books.
Step 3 – Attend our virtual assessment centre
For the final stage of your application, we’ll invite you to our virtual assessment centre and give you some tasks to get to know you better. The day will give you a practical insight into what it’s like to work as a Data Scientist and will assess your aptitude for this programme.
Once you’ve completed your assessment day, we’ll let you know when you can expect to hear back from us.
