Data Science Graduate Programme

Data Science is at the heart of decision making and customer treatments in Sky. We provide analytics to inform customer growth strategies, build tooling to drive personalised customer treatments and champion test and learn through experimentation  

On our Data Science programme, you’ll have exposure across the business as you work with our stakeholders to help drive decision making using the power of data and insights. You’ll learn advanced analytical techniques and use groundbreaking predictive algorithms to deliver valuable insight to the business. You could be helping to build our next data product, predicting future customer behaviour, or unlocking the value of our content.  

And the best thing is you don’t have to specialise too soon. Instead, you get to experience everything that makes data science special at Sky before deciding on the area that’s right for you.   

What you’ll be doing 

You’ll join our fast-track programme for those knowing they want to work in Data Science. You’ll do two six-month rotations in the Data Science & Analytics department within Sky Data, from the following teams:   

• Consumer – Collaborate closely with our commercial teams to develop data science models and data products which are used for strategic decision-making. 
• Content - Utilize viewing data to craft personalized customer experiences, enabling them to discover more content they adore. 
• Product & Operations – Partner with our product teams to create innovative data tools and enhance the efficiency and performance of the products our customers use in their daily lives. 

This gives you the opportunity to work across two teams, giving you broad exposure.  

What we’re looking for 

You're a graduate from any degree field, or soon will be. You’re likely to have studied maths, statistics, computer science, economics, physics or be able to demonstrate your understanding of the use of data through personal or university projects.  We’re interested in your passion for data and the drive and ambition you can bring to the team.   

Other skills you may have, include:  

• Logical, end to end thinker  
• A hardworking problem-solver, with numerical, presentation and IT skills  
• Previous experience in data manipulation using Python, SQL, R, SAS, Matlab  
• Machine learning - academic experience on Supervised/unsupervised learning, regression, decision trees, random forests, boosting  
• Enjoy task-focused delivery, a fast-paced environment and overcoming challenges   
• Collaborative and excellent with people and keen on following recent trends in the market.  

Your application journey    

Step 1 – Submit your application

We’ll be asking for your personal details, academic information and anything else that you think would be relevant such as work experience. 

Once your application has been submitted, you’ll be invited to complete our immersive digital assessments. This may land in your junk folder so don’t forget to check it.  

Step 2 – Complete our online digital assessments

These look at your Sky fit, business fit, and your ability to code. Why not pop onto our dedicated Prep hub to familiarise yourself with some of these digital assessments before applying. You’ll have the opportunity to practice each of these assessments beforehand, so please read our email instructions carefully. We’ve added some tips to help you along the way.  

The coding test involves basic SQL/Python, so we recommend familiarising yourself with these before starting. We don’t expect to know everything so during this test; you can also refer to websites or books.  

Step 3 – Attend out virtual assessment centre. 

For the final stage of your application, we’ll invite you to our assessment centre and give you some tasks to get to know you better. The day will give you a practical insight into what it’s like to work as a data scientist and will assess your technical aptitude.  

Once you’ve completed your assessment day, we’ll let you know when you can expect to hear back from us.
