Operating within the Siemens Digital Industries Software division, D-Cubed is a world-leading supplier of geometric software components for Computer Aided Design, Manufacturing and Engineering software developers. D-Cubed components lie at the heart of most high-end CAD software, delivering key functionality in areas such as constraint-based parametric sketching, assembly constraints, motion simulation, collision detection and hidden line drawing. 

What we’re looking for

As someone who’s opted for a placement within their degree course, you will be looking to start your career as a Software Engineer supporting the development process. Your degree must contain a high level of technical content preferably within engineering or computer science. This role is paid, available for one year, and offers a fantastic opportunity to work on world-class, complex software projects in an exciting and varied enterprise environment for industry leading customers.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Support Group Manager you will be working in a small team, focused on enhancing and streamlining customer support tools and the development environment for the D-Cubed development teams. You will work with a range of platforms and software tools. You will also be actively involved in communication with D-Cubed's global customer base, understanding their needs and communicating these to the development teams. You will acquire a broad understanding of our products, their domains, and their applications.

The ideal candidate will have the confidence to express ideas as part of a creative software team; a genuine interest in technological trends; the ability to meet deadlines; the capability to think creatively about solutions to complex technical problems; and will be constantly striving to enhance the team’s results and the quality of the software.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience of using a high-level programming language (e.g. Python, Perl, C++)
  • An inquisitive and methodical approach with good attention to detail
  • Strong analysis, design and problem-solving ability
  • Enthusiasm for continuous learning
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

A knowledge of any of the following would be desirable:

  • Software development processes and compilers
  • 3D geometry and CAD systems
  • Knowledge of Windows, MacOS, Linux (especially scripting)
  • Mobile app creation (e.g. Android/iOS)
  • Software test systems
  • Software build systems
  • Knowledge of software engineering principles and development processes
