Siemens Digital Industries Software is a leading provider of solutions for the design, simulation and manufacture of products across many different industries. White goods, motor vehicles, airplanes, ships, space exploration vehicles, and many of the products we see in our daily lives are being conceived, designed, and manufactured using our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.

The customer experience team is a multi-disciplinary team formed of Product Designers and User Researchers.

What we’re looking for

Are you a recent graduate or postgraduate looking to start your career as a product designer with a focus on enterprise software applications. Are you ready to help change the perception that enterprise applications are not user friendly, complicated to learn and hard to master?

Your degree should contain a high level of product design content, and you should have an exceptional interest in looking beyond what people say and explore what they actually do.

We are looking for a naturally curious person, who goes above and beyond to represent the needs of our users in our solutions. What you’ll be doing

During this 12-month internship you will work in small, agile teams tasked with the design and definition of our flagship CAD software. Whilst you will closely work alongside User Researchers and with development staff, your work will solely focus on the product design process. You will be reporting to the Product Design lead.

What you’ll bring

  • A BSc/MSc/PhD in Product Design or similar.
  • Understanding of how users use complex software, and a passion for understanding people, user needs and their behaviours.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills that allow you to present designs, in various stages of completion to stakeholders in an understandable, simplified and concise way both visually and verbally.
  • An understanding of a variety of design methodologies.
  • An interest in Software design.

A knowledge of any of the following would be desirable:

  • Agile software development
  • 3D CAD systems
  • Design thinking approaches

Other important information

  • 12-month internship with clearly defined milestones to build your but also get you familiar with our CAD software and the wider CAD industry. You will also be closely working with and supported by experienced product designers.
  • You will receive a salary, and all the benefits of any full time Siemens employee.
  • Ideally looking for a candidate who is available from early June.
  • This job is primarily remote (applicant must be located in the UK), but will include some travel (e.g. roughly every 12 weeks - travel will be paid by the company (unless you are locally based)).
  • You will be provided with all the technical set up required to successfully accomplish your job.
