Our Data Analyst- Summer Placement Programme offers the opportunity to expereience a new team who are revolutionising the way Data is treated and used by Severn Trent Water. Along with the opportunity to train as a Data Analyst with transferable skills. 

There are likely to be other targeted projects based on Continuous Improvements we need to make either to internal team processes or wider business processes relating to data and potentially AI.    

What will you learn?

You’ll gain a strong business and commercial acumen, working along side the Office of data, which serves the Chief Data Officer with responsibility for ensuring Severn Trent is making the best use of our data and that that data is well governed.   

A day in the life of a Data Science Summer Placement participant at Severn Trent involves a wide variety of tasks. 

Focusing on task like; 

  • Helping to design and deliver the new Data Framework 
  • Conducting data flow reviews to identify areas of excellence and opportunities for improvement 
  • Performing data related Incident and Risk analysis 
  • Carrying out AI governance activities and conduct solution analysis on prospective AI tools. 
  • Some Business As Usual activities including SARs (Subject Access Requests), Audits and fielding business issues and queries relating to data. 
  • Working with colleagues across Severn Trent to establish data related needs and, where appropriate, provide insightful and accurate information. 
  • Producing data dashboards and reports to help us make the complex simple. 
  • Ensuring data is being used ethically and in line with relevant legislation (e.g. GDPR). 
  • Practicing self-learning to keep up to date with technological developments and take responsibility for own professional development. 

In addition to daily tasks there are plenty of opportunities to expand your network through social events and engagement activities across the department, this is vital for successful collaboration with cross-functional teams within technology. 

How will the programme work?

You will be based at Severn Trent Centre in Coventry, the heart of our operating patch. You will be able to complete either an 8 week or 12 week placement depending on your preference as well as what the business area currently has on from a project perspective.      

In this exciting programme, you will have the chance to discuss your development and career ambitions in your 1-1 meetings with business leads, mentors, a study the cohort leader, and the New Talent Team.   

About the placement

  • Location: Severn Trent Centre, Coventry, CV1 2LZ  
  •  Programme Duration: 8 or 12 weeks   
  • Starting Salary: £22,011 pro rata   
  • Entry Criteria:  A computing degree including elements of AI and Data is preferred, but this is not essential. A good level of numeracy and literacy is a must. 

You must be currently studying at a UK university and be eligible to work in the UK without sponsorship
