Our Commercial and Performance Summer Placements Programme Offers the opportunity to spend time in the Commercial, Charges and Assurance teams within our Capital and Commercial Services Teams and gain understanding governance structures and commercial performance frameworks.    

A day in the life of a placement student at Severn Trent involves complex environmental information and providing strategic insight to drive governance structures, audit and training programmes.  You will develop data interrogation skills and the ability to assess risk to provide actionable insights at an operational and strategic level to drive performance and efficiency.   You’ll spend time supporting with major activities like budget planning and project management. 

In addition to daily tasks there are plenty of opportunities to expand your network through social events and engagement activities across the department, this is vital for successful collaboration with cross-functional teams within technology. 

What will you learn?

You will expand your knowledge of Data Interrogation and developing commercial insight. You’ll also gain a strong business and commercial acumen, developing your ability to understand charges and how to Understand and Implement Governance Structures. 

You will have exposure to some of the following either directly from the placements, or project work:   

  • Budget Planning 
  • Data Interrogation and developing commercial insight 
  • Understand and Implement Governance Structures 
  • Understanding Charges 
  • Strategy and transformation 
  • Project Management 
  • Collate and interrogate a variety of data including compliance, overall performance and financial data to provide timely insights on the monthly and yearly performance and highlight any patterns and trends and use tailored data visualisations to communicate with key stakeholders 
  • Build partnership with stakeholders to offer and deliver recommendations and acting as a project manager to deliver solutions  
  • Ability to build strong relationships across a variety of stakeholders and use data to influence decision making and deliver solutions. 
  • Ability to interpret complex environmental information and provide strategic insight.  Use this understanding to develop and implement governance structures which support the changing environment 
  • Understanding Charges 
  • Strategy and transformation 

How will the programme work?

You will be based at Severn Trent Centre in Coventry, the heart of our operating patch. You will be able to complete either an 8 week or 12 week placement depending on your preference as well as what the business area currently has on from a project perspective.      

In this exciting programme, you will have the chance to discuss your development and career ambitions in your 1-1 meetings with business leads, mentors, a study the cohort leader, and the New Talent Team.   

About the placement

Location: Severn Trent Centre, Coventry, CV1 2LZ  

Programme Duration: 8 or 12 weeks      

Starting Salary:  £22,011 pro rata      

Entry Criteria: The degrees that lend you to this programme will include (these are preferred, not essential): 

  • Business Management  
  • Finance (Awareness) 
  • Excel Proficiency (Required) 
  • Statistical (Awareness/Application) 

You must be currently studying at a UK university and be eligible to work in the UK without sponsorship
