The role
Due to an exciting new programme which is going to see us deliver for our customers a full mains renewal across our region over the next few years, we are now on a significant recruitment drive to scale our teams to deliver this fantastic work.
We are looking for a Assistant Design Engineer to join our team and support the design of technical solutions for Severn Trent Water Mains Renewal Programmes. Including projects from the feasibility stage all the way through to detailed design.
As our new Assistant Design Engineer, you’ll be working alongside Design Engineers to conduct feasibility evaluations and assessments for schemes within the required timelines and agreed budgets, utilising both site visits and data analysis.

Key accountabilities
- Prepare and deliver information to stakeholders, including content, designs, and sketches for the mains renewal programme and subsequent construction.
- Collaborate with the programme team to ensure solutions are constructed and commissioned to the agreed design specification. Conduct preconstruction assessments through site visits to identify any unknown complexities.
- Help design solutions that deliver efficient and cost-effective solutions, liaising with internal and external experts. Identify and assess operational risks, ensuring health and safety are integrated into the design lifecycle. Maintain proactive risk management and risk registers throughout the design process.
- Contribute to the development of commissioning plans, review and validate third-party designs, and support the programme team to ensure solutions meet design specifications. Participate in post-project reviews to appraise delivered solutions and capture learnings.
What you’ll bring to the role
For this role the right candidate will have experience in suing CAD or BIM and will have had exposure to CDM regulations within design.
As travel is required, you’ll also have to hold a full U.K driving license. The right skills and experience are important. But if you have the right character, positivity, and a caring attitude we want to talk to you, too.
