Process Engineering Group is responsible for all the key technologies and their application in magnetic recording head manufacturing processes. This covers a wide range of disciplines and includes Photolithography, Vacuum Deposition and Etch, Electro-plating, material and process characterisation techniques, as well as advanced data analytics.  Many aspects of wafer process require deep understanding of scientific principles of advanced technology, together with material properties. We welcome students and graduates from all Science and Engineering Degree Programs.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for candidates who currently studying for Maths/Physics/Chemistry degree wishing to take on an 11-month placement in a high-tech industrial environment over the next academic year, commencing on 1st September 2025. The successful candidate will join our team based in Springtown in Derry.

You will

  • Working on state-of-art technology in wafer manufacturing in the areas of photolithography, Vacuum Deposition and Etch, Electro-plating, and associated metrology techniques within the Process Engineering Department. 
  • Work with engineers and technicians on projects that optimise process capability and improving wafer yield. 
  • Undertake training programs covering data analysis, six sigma, and recording head technologies. 

About you

  • You will currently be studying a Maths/Physics degree and have solid understanding of basic scientific and engineering principles of related courses.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills and desire to work in high tech manufacturing environment.

Your experience includes

Currently undertaking a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Maths/Physics/Chemistry

This is a Full-Time position working 39 hours per week, on-site working. The placement dates are: Starting on Monday, 1st September 2025 and finishing Friday, 21st August 2026
