The Global Wafer Systems Group is a highly technical team responsible for the design, development, and deployment of systems for Seagate, with several locations in the US, Southeast Asia, India, China, the United Kingdom, and beyond. About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Machine Learning, Data Engineering or Computer Science Intern wishing to take on a 11-month placement, commencing on 1st September 2025 to join our Global Wafer Systems team in Springtown. 

  • The intern will join our highly dynamic Global Wafer Systems team and will be expected to work in one of the following domains depending on skillset: Statistics, Deep-learning, Data Engineering, Computer Science or Software Development.
  • Developing state of the art machine learning models.
  • Deliver critical insights supporting automated decision making and root cause analysis. 
  • Work on Image processing algorithms. 
  • Translate machine learning algorithms into production-level code.
  • Perform data and feature engineering.
  • Build well-documented scalable RESTful APIs. 
  • Work closely with a global team of Data Scientists to complete a research project to help shape the future of new data products.

About you

  • Skilled in Python (knowledge of pandas, sklearn, matplotlib, numpy, jupyter notebooks. Optionally: tensorflow, pytorch). 
  • SQL proficiency, basic understanding of database structures (experience with PostgreSQL is a plus). 
  • Experience with classification and tree-based algorithms, among other supervised and unsupervised methodologies. Knowledge of regression, clustering or neural networks is a plus)
  • Any experience with web development frameworks is welcomed (Flask, Django, FastAPI, or similar)
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts simply to different groups.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams and stakeholders, including analytics teams, development teams, product management and operations.

Your experience includes

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in data science, mathematics, computer science, engineering, or related field.
  • Programming skills with Python, R, JavaScript, SQL, Java, MATLAB.
  • Knowledge in machine learning algorithms applicable for predictive tasks
  • Interest in machine learning algorithms and predictive analytics (experience with Kaggle competitions, personal projects, or coursework is a plus)
  • Familiarity with any cloud computing platform is valuable (e.g., Azure, GCP, Databricks, AWS, Snowflake)

This is a Full-Time position working 39 hours per week, on-site working. The placement dates are: Starting on Monday, 1st September 2025 and finishing Friday, 21st August 2026
