Evolution of the Distribution System Operator (DSO) model, within SP Energy Networks, will bring a more active and dynamic network as both consumers and generators interact more with the electricity system. And with new economic, commercial and flexible solutions, the DSO model will help us to deliver our customers’ and stakeholders’ needs. 

To develop a flexible and truly smart grid, we are rolling-out a new data, digital and communications ecosystem that will enable coordinated planning and delivery of these Whole System solutions. We are on a journey to transform our organisation into a modern, digitalised energy network operator.

We will manage vast increases in the volume and frequency of data collected from technologies such as remote sensors, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, wearable technology and drones, and generate evidence bases and automated solutions that ensure optimised decision making.

What you’ll be doing

Data Analytics - You’ll work with operational data, such as energy flow, usage and voltage, as well as data associated with network equipment like cables, overhead lines and switchgear. Additionally, you will analyse business, financial, process and geospatial data using your data science skills to transform this information into valuable insights that inform business decisions and shape future strategies. 

Cyber - Your role is crucial in ensuring the safety and security of all planned activities. Collaborating with various teams, such as Governance, Risk and Assurance (GRA), Security Architecture, Cyber Security Operations, and Project Delivery, you will implement robust Cyber Security measures to protect the organisation's digital assets and infrastructure. 

AEMS System Engineer – Working at the forefront of cutting-edge technology and innovation within the AEMS team serves as a crucial link between third-party equipment suppliers and the implementation of AEMS solutions. With a primary objective of ensuring the system meets contractual obligations while aligning seamlessly with business requirements, you’ll play a vital role in driving successful project outcomes. 

Telecoms – You will be essential in implementing and maintaining the Strategic Telecoms Network to meet Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) standards. You'll gain hands-on experience across the Telecoms functions. In Design, you’ll help develop complex Telecom Design Solutions. In Project Delivery, you'll apply project management principles for successful outcomes. In Operations, you'll maintain the Operational Telecoms Network in a fast-paced environment. Throughout the program, you'll enhance your technical skills in Network Management Systems and various technologies like IP, MPLS, and SDH, while applying troubleshooting techniques and managing network documentation effectively. 

Digital - Engaging with a diverse range of projects that span across fields such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems, and Geographical Systems. You’ll learn to take on roles like software development, data analysis, systems management, and IT consulting. This experience will equip you to tackle complex problems, innovate solutions, and drive efficiencies, all while contributing to our mission of leveraging data to create impactful results within our organisation.

Minimum criteria

Honours Degree (or equivalent) at a minimum of 2:2 Degree:

  • Data Analytics - Computer Science, Data Analytics, Data Science, Geographical Systems or similar.
  • Cyber - Cyber Security, Computer Forensics, Maths related degree, or STEM-related or similar
  • AEMS - Advanced Energy Management Systems. Computer Science, Electronic & Electrical or similar.
  • Telecoms - Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or similar.
  • Digital - Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems, Geographical Systems or similar.
